No Solicitors Allowed!

There is a house in my neighborhood that has an enormous paper taped with shipping tape to the door that says "No Solicitors Allowed."  This is then followed by a few sentences that clarify what it means to be a solicitor.  In the end, if you weren't INVITED to knock on this neighbor's door, don't expect to have it answered.  Capisce?  (That's Italiano for GET IT????)

Go Away!

While this particular neighbor might be more vociferous than your average person, seeing this sign made me think of how none of us really want to be solicited.  I mean, seriously, how much do you hate it when you are sitting watching a TV show, or having dinner with your family, or just finally sitting down after a long and busy day and all of a sudden, "DING DONG" – the doorbell rings.  The dogs go nuts, everyone is yelling at them to be quiet which totally gives away the fact that you are home and then you peek out the window only to find that person with a clip board and a name tag for some company they represent. You know that feeling?

Well that is the feeling of being solicited my friends and none of us like it.  Why is that?  Well for starters, it interrupts our plans…whatever we had going on at that moment.  Then on top of it, we feel like we are being prodded to do something that we don't want to do.  Then we feel suspicious because really, isn't everything a scam nowadays?  Then we feel bad because maybe that person was just trying to pay for his college education after all.  Its just not a warm and fuzzy.

Here is what I want you to KNOW.  If you solicit, you will not SELL.  Okay you may get the occasional person that buys just to get you off their back, but you will not have great success. 

No the fortune comes with ATTRACTION MARKETING.  This is where you have real relationships with people, truly helpful tools to give those people and then when people realize the value you bring, they come to YOU looking to BUY.

Try going out and just being nice for 30 days.  See what friendships you can develop, see how you can help others.  Be genuine and caring.  Guess what happens then?  People want to know more about you, they will start following you and then just one day will happen to wonder what it is that you offer in your business.  You will get their attention and it will flow from there.

So please, if you have been soliciting, try something new.  Remember that sign on the door – most people have one mentally. 

Attraction Marketing is the only way to go.  Now GO AWAY and Have a Great Day!

Yes…I avoid all people that knock on my door…I don't want to be bothered…have a million things to do and the last thing I want is another expectation or $$ drained from the reserve running on empty!! Attraction Marketing is the way to go, I believe deep down most want this or be able to do it, but they need to be shown "how." Ironically, when you stop promoting and "just be" is when people get interested ;)

I love this article!  Yes, I've seen that more people buy from you because they like you and not because you've accosted them somewhere.  Attraction Marketing means just that, Attract!
